Kinsip Makes Maple in the County Even Sweeter

Helaine Becker at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute
Canadian children’s author, Helaine Becker, visited the grades one and two classes at PECI on Tuesday, March 5th. Helaine read from two of her books, You Can Read and The Sloth at the Zoom, and spoke to the students about reading and writing.
The Baxter Centre and County Kids Read worked together to make this author visit possible. The presentation was a wonderful success.
County Kids Read at the Wellington Family Day Event
Maddy Piper and Mercedes Crowe from the ROC, along with Wendy Matthews (County Kids Read) and Liz Bosma Donovan (Wellington Rotary) were in attendance at the Wellington Family Day events at Lehigh Centre last week. County Kids Read provided books to help the Wellington Rotary launch a new free reading program website. The online site helps children with reading skills such as sight word recognition.
CKR Receives Grant from the Huff Estate Family Fund
Lanny Huff presents Janna Smith from the Arts Council and Anne Preston from County Kids Read with a cheque from the Huff Estate Family Fund. County Kids Read was one of several organizations to receive a grant from the Fund.
PEC Learning Centre Visits County Kids Read Book Room
On Wednesday, February 20th Anne Preston and Peta Shelton from County Kids Read hosted a visit to the book room by students and staff of the Prince Edward County Learning Centre. The visit acquainted us with the interests and needs of students at The Learning Centre and also gave us a glimpse of the genuine care and consideration that the staff and students show each other.
CKR Volunteers Host Open House for New County Council
On Friday, February 1st several Councillors and the Mayor of Prince Edward County visited the County Kids Read book room. Coffee, treats and conversations about literacy filled the room. The low literacy rates in the County and the response to this issue by the County Kids Read project was discussed by volunteers and council.
Thank you to the council for taking the time to visit and learn about County Kids Read.

Santa Visits Babies and Beyond
Ho Ho Ho! Santa was a big hit, and so were the board books from County Kids Read when Santa visited the Babies and Beyond group at The Hub Centre on December 18th.
