We bring the magic of stories into the classroom

School Visits

We partner with Prince Edward Collegiate Institute (PECI), Sophiasburgh Central School, and Athol-South Marysburgh Public School to give children the chance to come together and listen to a story, before they get to choose their very own books from our collection.

Each of our partner schools have been designated “in need” due to lower academic achievement scores and higher rates of families facing financial challenges, ensuring that the impact of our free books is even greater.

PECI students are invited to visit our Book Room located at St Mary Magdalene Anglican Church in Picton. County Kids Read volunteers go directly to Sophiasburgh Central and Athol-South Marysburgh Public Schools — books in tow.

Book Buddies

COMING FALL 2025 - We are delighted to announce that we will soon be launching Book Buddies, a new pilot project in collaboration with Prince Edward Collegiate Institute. Through one-on-one, weekly support from a trained tutor, this initiative will help dozens of struggling and/or reluctant young readers in our community gain both tangible literacy skills and a love for reading. Stay tuned for more info!

Author Visits

Access to the benefits of books and literacy begins when children have the chance to fall in love with the right story. Professional authors can be important role models, helping spark an interest for both reading and writing, and the magic of storytelling.

We bring engaging Author Visits to local schools, creating new opportunities for authors to connect hundreds of local children with the written word and their own creativity. Schools also receive authors’ book copies for classroom and library use — so the gift of our Author Visits can continue!

OUR IMPACT

We give out books to hundreds of County students during 50+ school visits every year.
